About Over 25 years ago, my dad rescued a half dead cactus plant from my window sill (Required disclaimer - this was long before I met my wife who has green thumbs :-). Dad managed to bring it back to life and when he passed away I reinherited it. It is now a huge healthy plant and has even provided offspring of its own. It blooms every year around Christmas and I consider it a little piece of my dad that lives on.

I shot this with the same window light that I used with First Amarylis shot. Because of the black background I'm adding this to my Black Jacket portfolio even though I didn't use my wife's, now infamous, black jacket - I didn't need to, the room was dark enough that the background was dark enough. Actual exposure (from EXIF) 4 seconds at f/16

Merry Christmas to the entire Usefilm community.

Hi Jim!

I do have to say that your image together with your story makes it all...
I sense that you have a very humble attitude toward the two sides of life.

My very best!
/Lars

Jim, thank you for taking the time to comment on my Lilly shot.

I accept you suggestion to ad more space between the flowers and the border. I guess it is just a matter of opinion.

I belong to www.potd.com.au . It was one of the better known members on that site who suggested I place the comp within the frame the way I have displayed it on UseFilm! LOL. She has an aversion to anything centred! LOL.

So, as I said, a lot of the time it comes down to personal choice.

Jim, in saying all this, I must say that I truly appreciate you suggestion and feedback.

Cheers

Phil

An astonishing macro! Marvellous colours and details! I like the dark-background you’ve chosen. So you’ve created a very attractive attention on the subject.
Best wishes: Maxime

Hi JIm,

Since you asked about the succulent flower your wife wanted the name for I thought I'd see your photos also!

This one by the way is very nice!

I ordered two Christmas cactus cuttings from someone on Ebay last year. They haven't done a whole lot, guess they just need more time, or perhaps they aren't getting enough humidity! I'm in San Diego...........

But, unlike your wife who has two green thumbs, I think I only have one. LOL

Lori :)

Great shot of the cactus bloom. We have a large one also that my husband seems to know how to talk to just right because it is always so gorgeous when it blooms. I like your diagonal composition. it really shows off the many ruffles of the bloom so well.

It is a very lovely macro shot. I can see al of it's detail. Would be better to use a diffuser as there is little bit too much light on it's petals.
