About Okay, anyone who hasn't experimented with one of these kinds of "artsy fartsy" "self portrait in the mirror" photos is invited to throw the first stone at this image :)
Taken about winter 72, in a bus terminal convex mirror, used to aid the bus drivers when pulling out into traffic.
I thought it had some nice geometry stuff going on in the image. I liked the texture and the slight distortion.
The concept of the camera replacing the face may be over-used, but it works!

Scanned from a Tri-x negative.
Original print made in 1972 on Kodak polycontrast paper.

Thanks Ina,
I actually did a print of this one in the early 70's. But I'm really enjoying manipulating the negatives in Photoshop. The lack of mess and stains is a huge bonus. :)
I still enjoy using a darkroom occasionally though. There is nothing like watching that image come through under a safe-light.

Fantastic shot Andre! I love mirrors and self-portraits! They just go hand-in-hand. And round mirrors are especially attractive. Great image, and great B & W view of the wet pavement, great mood!

Thanks Ray,
I did actually print this one years ago. One of the advantages of manipulating the negatives digitally is you don't have to waste so much paper trying to get it right. If anything, we have too much choice regarding how we want an image to look now.

It's very difficult to do, Andre. It has that accidental, by chance look. That's what I like about it, how it should look.

Your right Mark.
I even got lucky with the position of the camera in this shot. I don't think I could have planned it that well :)

I can never get enough of cameras being in the shot. It to me is every bit a self-portrait as with our own faces.

Thanks Rosario,
I can't say for sure whether I meant to do this at the time, but I liked the effect of the faceless photographer that I got.
We all hide behind our cameras sometimes :)

Hi Thilo,
I've always liked this old shot, even though I know it has been done many times before. There is a cloudyness in the mirror that comes from it not being a real mirror. (convex sheet of something mettalic I think) I am so pleased with the effects that I am getting with the scanner and old negatives!! I seem to be able to duplicate however I had it on print, in Photoshop, and a lot more. This one is a good example. I have been looking at some of my old photo manuals and I am comparing what I'm getting here to what is in the books from the 20's, 30's and 40's and I like what I see. I'll be posting a few more "Street" scenes in the near future.
Thanks for all your support Thilo.

Hi Andre,

you're not revealing too much of yourself =) I like the idea behind it and the way the mirror divides the picture. good rework on the negative, as far I can judge from here.

best wishes,
Thilo
