Rain and mist brought you a wonderful nature you captured beautifully. That was already some time ago, I hope it still does.
Best regards, Jan

Thank you Abhik. As I become older, I see fewer and fewer things as 'perpetual'. In this image, the rains have gone and returned many times now. Ice has hidden the water and the mountains are slowly becoming sand. What is perpetual is the feeling this image captured and that is a lie! I was very rushed on this visit with only 10 minutes to make this and other images. I am afraid my spirituality was very poor at the time. Thanks for commenting.

We see some and we feel some...this one I would love to feel.
Calling it 'moody' would be wrong as ,to me, this photograph carries in it all the properties of being perpetual!

A really wonderful landscape.
Also perfect re all other requirements for a great capture. It reminds me of a short episode in time when I've lived there.

I don't know if the drops make or break this picture. On the one hand I say "genius", on the other I say "clean off your shmutzy lens". It goes both ways sometimes, but at least you made me think, I thank you for that. Good work.

Beautiful photograph. The colors create a special atmosphere. I don't know if this is to the photographer's credit or nature's.
I would like to be there.

Rain or not this is a beautiful image, Including the log in the foreground gives a real sense of 3D, the reflection of the trees nicely fills in the gap to the right of the log. Well done John.

Wow!! Great shot of Spirit Island. The mood does set the tone for a contrary day of weather. The low cloud ceiling is FANTASTIC!! The tones and exposure are just great.

Superb landscape, the conditions are what make it stand above a crowd, anyone serious about being out in the wild will apreciate the dampness and the feeling that you are somehow experiencing the place in a way many wouldn't care to. As I don't get the chance these days it's great to feel it through others' photography.

Many congratulations for SC on this one John. You're right, most shots show this scene in glorious sunlight but you've captured more of the reality here. We've been to Alberta twice and both times the road to Maligne Lake was still blocked by snow so I've never got to see this view for real. Thank you for sharing and reminding me how awesome the Rockies can be.
Congrats once again.

Hi John, Superb moody landscape, and very well composed. Although I see no other solution, I think the waterfront in the foreground closes the composition a bit. Other than that an excellent shot, and a very well deserved SC. Very well composed. The drops on the lens add alot to the atmosphere. Impressive!

Cheers,

Hugo

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I have to say that "Spirit Island" is one of those places where it is usually hard to take a bad picture. I only wish I had had the time to just sit and enjoy the scene. As to Maligne lake being a good set piece for a Tolkien movie, yes but only on the rainy days. On sunny days it is so glorious the moody effect disappears. Thanks staff. John B

Since no one else is saying it, I will. You suck John! :-)

This is so beautiful man. Next time I am coming with you. Although I suppose I gotta get a Leica first? :-) I really like that the trees seem to have a glow coming from behind them. Very spiritual.

This shot has everything, foreground, mid ground and excellent backgroud. Maybe it needs a bit warming (since the weather was pretty bad).
