OK, I couldn't afford the Epson 1280, so I bought what I consider the next best thing. The 785EPX. I am still stunned at the quality of the prints that I have made in the few days that I have owned the printer. But, I can already see one drawback. The tiny ink cartridges. They just won't last.
So my question is: Does anyone have experience/knowledge of bulk ink delivery systems and available pigment based inks? I have found several websites that tell how to make your own BIS system. But since I don't have that much experience with Epson printers, I worry about finding a suitable substitute for the Epson OEM inks.
For those of you not familiar with the 785EPX, it is a 6 color, pigment based photo quality printer. Max resolution of 2880 DPI, 4 Picoliter drop size, will print borderless prints from 4x6 to letter size paper or roll paper up to 8 1/2 inches wide (it even comes with the roll paper adapter included), And the really fun thing, it will work as a stand alone print station. It accepts Compact Flash, Smartmedia, and Sony Memorystick cards using a standard PCMCIA adapter. And if you happen to have an extra $99.00 you can buy a small monitor that attaches to the top of the printer so you can see your prints before printing them. There is much more to this printer than I can describe without getting too long winded, but If you want a very affordable printer that will deliver fantastic results, check this one out. By the way, would anyone like to buy a HP 855 or Alps 5000? I won't be needing them anymore.
