About The light has been bad for over a month now for landscapes so I went out scouting new locations. This railway line is only about 2 miles from my house so when I see the right light it will be easy to reach fast. This is a test shot but it looks better in B&W because of the flat light.

Hi Manu,

I suppose it depends on your budget really. Sigma lenses are not bad and are pretty much inside anyone's average budget. I spent quite a few quid on the Nikon 12-24mm DG EX, in fact its worth more than the D100 body now! Its crystal clear though and well built, I'll have it for life. Dont forget to multiply the focal lenght by 1.5 to get the digital equivilent.

Rgds,
Shane

Great flowing shot and especially with the grittyness of the track/sleepers...well done. I'm about to purchase a D70 what are good quality lenses?

Cheers

The sky was actually adjusted but not as a seperate layer ... I used the magic wand tool to keep it at a lower level. Adjustment layers are not a technique I have fully mastered yet but thanks for the suggestion it is something I will look into

Great capture again Kid. You did a great job in PS but i Would like to see this in full colour. Maybe if you do what PJ suggests you could improve the water. And maybe sharpen the reeds,

Hi PJ,

Many thanks for the comment. Highlights blown - correct and a pet hate of mine, it can be particularly hard to deal with in digital. The original image shot itself had sufficent detail in the blown out area but I sarcrificed this for the punchy contrast the red channel offered in the channel mixer. This brought up the rust on the tracks and helped the overall composition. If I was to shoot this agin I would choose a better time of day.

I really like the wide perspective and the leading of the eye via the rails - can't wait for more of the same .. K
