About Another photo of Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona. This is believed to be an Anasazi cliff dwelling ruin known as the "White House in Between", (Kinii Na Igai in Navajo) so called because of the whitewashed wall of the house as seen here.

Thank you, John. I also find it amazing that these people went to all those lengths (actually heights) to construct these but I am sure it was to protect themselves from other people and predators.

This is fantastic Dave ~ I've seen shots of this place in magazines but I think yours is better ~ incredibly rich colour and detail ~ a definite 7/7!

Oh my GOD....how on earth they build that!!! And from the thumpnail I though that is JUST a nice rocky mountain that you shot but ....oh my...there are houses...very old...and I am not sure even today people can constract something like that...really amazing photo Dave, and PERFECT about the quality on the details of the rocks - building...and ofcaurse I love the strength of the colors, fantastic lines ...looks like made by the water - rain as they fall...really a great photo that gives more than JUST a nice place...a piece of history.

Thank you, Laurie. No, I didn't take the Jeep tour this time but will be returning to this wonderful place again to do so. It is only 2 hours or so from my house.

My intention was to also go to Monument Valley but I cut it short and didn't. Mostly because of sunburn... But it's another place we'll be heading to eventually.

Great Photo Dave...
Been there many times. Looks like the light was just right, probably late afternoon. Did you do the jeep tour down in the canyon or the horse back riding trip. I love Arizona and especially this magical canyon de'chelly. Hope you made it over to Monument Valley also. Love your whole series of shots here1 Your Bud...Laurie

Hey Dave -

I think it's the intense saturation of color that makes this a real winner of a shot.

Thank you, Jacques. I've not yet been to Mesa Verde, though. Don't know if it is as spectacular as Canyon de Chelly.

Thank you, Shirley... I am about a half-mile away and 800 feet above the dwelling.... which is why it looks so small.

Thanks, Michele... so glad you are enjoying... what you call a "fence" is actually the walls of houses of the "village". It is believed that up to 100 men women and children lived here in this particular cliff community during its heyday. The houses were constructed of stone blocks and mud mortar.

Hi Dave,
Me again... I love this place Canyon de Chelly...and as I was viewing the image I thought it looked like a CAVE but since I read your about.... I understand it is like a 'house' (same thing))almost..... Altho this looks espeically cool, and framed with good light, and sort of a fence type structure for added protection from falling out I think :))
These images.... everyone are excellent images I have truely enjoyed.
Thank YOU again for sharing them.
Best wishes,
Michele~
