About A crab spider holding a blow fly behind its neck - injecting venom and enzymes. I took several photos of different crab spiders with prey. It is very intersting to note that they approach the insect head on, grab it by the head with the two pairs of well developed, strong front legs. It keeps it in that position until the insect is totally paralysed and then turn it around and start feeding on the soft abdomen. I usually watch in amazement how easily they catch and handle prey twice their size. Amazing creatures.
Taken with the 105mm Micro Nikkor plus the Panagor 2.75X macro converter and ringflash. Uncropped, minor adjustments to brightness, constrast and sharpness.

Thanks again Eb - I had the use of the SB-R200 system for a month. I am busy with the review article on it for Nikon-South Africa. Buy it? I dont have the money!! It's great but expensive - So I will stick to my ringflash (which also does a superb job!

Joggie, the photograph is beautifully done and all your macros are enhanced by your carefully crafted explanations. I enjoy the zoology lessons! You mention the ring-flash - are you still using the Nikon SB-R200 units?

Wow, Joggie!! Thanks so much for bringing this photo to us and adding the really informative remarks about the spider. I can feel the crab spider straining to keep the fly from flying off. Great detail of the coup de grace.
Best wishes,
Steve

I don't believe this. I've just uploaded a very similar pic of the same kind of spider, but with a bee. How funny. This is a great macro, Joggie.
They are amazing little creatures, aren't they. Cheers, Ann.
