About It's not mustache that grown on snake's mouth but a thread which was stitched to snake mouth to close it from biting. Snake charmer in Mumbai-India does this so cruelly for the festival named Naag-Panchami. Some misconceptions from old ages are still on some peoples mind. These people worship snakes on this day and offer them milk and other edible, which obviously not meant to be eaten by snake.

This help less poor snake then forcefully dipped into the cup of milk and because of suffocation it has to drink the milk, and seeing this superstitious people feel they have been blessed by feeding this wild reptile.

Our constant team efforts with other groups like ?snake friends? from last 10 years has now made some improvement over this situation and now it is rare to see this cruelty at least in Mumbai city, rest of the India still continuing with their cruelty.

My heart is sick with this story Girish. No wonder these snakes would want to bite - how awful to endure. How can people believe that they are blessed by watching the torment of an animal? I am so amazed that anyone would think there is a blessing there - GOOD for YOU to tackle such a project. I can't stand to see animals be treated like that. They only have your voice my friend - be loud! Thanks for sharing this.

Wonderful photo, Girish-- perfect in every way. Thank you for the commentary about the snake and the traditions that cause it harm. Thank you, too, for your efforts to change these practices and attempts to save the snakes from harm.

Oh my, I never realized this is what they did to these snakes. Snakes are not my fovourite animal, but I do not like to see any animal deliberately hurt. They all deserve to be teated with respect. You have taken a marvelous picture this beautiful snake. The colour and details are wonderful. Keep up the good work trying to stop the cruelty.

Yes Ram Raju, this stitches are temporary thing, which might not be a great problem but the problem is milk that they have to drink, and because of this their stomach gets upset and they usually gets disentry, and sometimes that costs their life. Some more are coming up in next week in this series.

Nice close up and another disturbing story of cruelty to animals....we have to change these misconceptions! I was in South India some years back, they also do this I think but never heard of them stitching the cobra's mouth. It has to be a temporary thing right? If not how does it eat?

And thanks for your comments on my photos. :)
