About Convert to B&W using Channels plugin in PSE3. This version is about 90% blue channel with just a touch of red and green channels. A slight adjustment was made with Levels to pull out some detail in the darkest shadow. Finally, a small bit of high pass sharpening was done.

The blue channel brought out a sort of greasy texture or tonality to this rope that I like.
