About We had a beautiful evening in West Bay yesterday. Great weather, really warm, but the sky was very hazy. In fact, you could barely make out the horizon! So it was with the 'Isle of Portland', in the dim distance ~ you could barely make it out. We climbed a massive hill to get up to the top of these cliffs, but it was well worht the effort.
Roger and Keith, you should be proud of me! No new sky and I actually toned DOWN the colours, believe it or not ~ DEsaturated them! Not something I do very often. What grabbed me about this scene was the patterns in the rough sand, made by the incoming tide. Hope you like it. Thanks for looking.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the comments!!
This part of the cliff walk was just about 1 mile west of where we stood, so the view is very similar.
As to the cottage garden, we went within 1/2 mile of it but didn't actually see it!!
Kind regards, Chris

Gee... what a dreamlike place and marvelous mood! Stunning light, colours, quality and compsition! I really really LOVE this photo, it has really got that special!

I read Keiths comment about tilting horison, and I feel too that it's tilting a little bit. But then I read your answer, so I'm confused and don't know who is right. :-))

Up there you didn't have to worry about getting your shadow in the picture. Great composition and just a beautiful setting. Don.

Thanks, Robert!
That is a bit 'radical', but I must say I like it a lot!
Kind regards, Chris

On second thought, how about going more radical, like this :-)

Hi Chris, I like the strong contrast in the foreground versus the soft blending in the background and the people on the beach to gauge the height of the cliff. Very nice composition. (I might have been tempted to crop at the place where the beach kinks to the right to put more emphasis on the cliff).

Hello Keith,
Thanks for your comment. As regards the frame, it's just down to personal taste. I see what you mean about black and gold, but I still like the blue!
With respect to the 'horizon', I'm not so sure. The small land mass in the distance, (Portland), is pointing away from the camera ~ should it then be absolutely level, as in a normal seascape-type horizon? Look at the people on the beach. The two you can see that are standing up, are standing upright. Rotate the image to the right to 'straighten' the 'horizon' and both they and the cliff-face in the foreground woud be leaning over!!
I'm still not sure, but I'm happy to leave it as it is.
Kind regards, Chris

Yep, I do like it. The diagonal line is superb, and those sand patterns as you say really make a difference. 2 things I would change are 1, the horizon needs to be level, and 2, the frame ... black and gold would be my choice.

However, a really wwell constructed image apart from those minor points.
