Hi Mom,

I Like the contast between the stump and the foliage. Is that an apple in the leafs?
Well seen and presented.

These are fascinating creatures. We were over run by them a couple of years back, we were deafened for months. The children at our child care centre brought hundreds in each day, so we did a whole unit of work on them. They don't live very long after they hatch. This is a particularly clear photograph of what we in Australia call Cicadas. Well done. CC

Thanks for the comment Roberto - had fun taking my first real fireworks shots. They sure are tricky. Will get back to taking photos when our weather gets a little cooler. Whew! Jan

Thanks Steven - had just gotten my new camera and didn't really have much of a clue as to how it worked. As soon as it gets out of the triple digits (i.e. late September/October) will be going back to City Hall and trying again.

Thanks for your super comments on some of my recent shots. Really did get a couple of good fireworks shots. The top firework in this one reminded me of a dandelion being blown by the breeze. Yes, miss the Grandkids and wish they were closer. Have bunches of fun when your granddaughter comes to visit. BTW - forgot to jump online and wish you - on our shared date of 5/18 - happy anniversay! Too darn hot to do much of anything here much less out in the sun for a photoshoot! So I have been spending more time quilting! LOL Jan

Your pictures turned out so well. Mine were bust. I surely need more practice at fireworks. The one in the front looks like a flower. Great shot.

Obviously, they had a great time. So, their tears were maybe dried up quickly. How about yours? It must be hard saying goodbye when they live quite a ways away. He really looks so sad. Our little grandaugher is coming to visit on Tuesday. I am really looking forward to that.

Nope - for the past 10 years we have had a fantastic view of the 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks that takes place at the Peoria Sports Complex. (Just a hair to the west and about 3/4 mile to the north of us.) Of course the best view is from the Complex as the fireworks are right overhead. Can't decide whether to go there next year or to Laughlin for their Show over the river. Probably Laughlin - but who knows... Thanks for the comments!

I noticed that @ F10, my best shots were between 1-4 sec. I also noticed that my better shots were from 24mm to 33 mm. Guess it just takes playing around a little. The wind was pretty brisk - so quite a few shots had the fireworks drifting as they went up. Difficult to know also how high they were set to go off - and the flare of the "rocket" as they launched was no indication of the ultimate height of the burst. Do like your shot - full screen and the whole burst too! We'll probably both be better by next year! I uploaded one on the other site that I can't upload here until tomorrow.

Fantastic Work Mom!

I Love the coloring and feathering.
Well Done. The Longer you leave your Shutter open the more washed out the colors get. You can tell the difference between this year and last year. I can't wait to see what you get next year!
Love Ya Happy 4th!

Thanks Lisa - really like the delicate colors and feeling in this shot. What a great learning experience last night's shoot was! May go to Laughlin for the 4th next year and try to capture the fireworks over the Colorado River. When we were there for the 4th a few years ago, the display was awesome! Jan

Another great shot. I was using a 70-200, but now see I should be going with a wide angle lens instead.

I love the look of the firework exploding at the top of the image.
