I like the composition quite a bit, however I feel the overexposed areas add too much contrast and make an overall harsher image then the softer image I image you are going for. I might recommend taking the same picture early in the morning or later in the evening... I enjoyed looking through your portfolio,

its obviously a very nice shot and series...I would however like to see more of it. the small shots that are posted leave too much to the imagination and I for one would like to see them in a larger size, maybe 800px across... really nice series though,

its on purpose only because with the 12mm lens flares are unavoidable, but i kinda like how it turned out... thanks Terry!

great colors, contrast, and composition...
it might look a little crisper with a bit of unsharp mask imho, but its great as it is now too.

Hi Lydia, well, first of all, yes it this photo was taken from an airplane. It was a flight from Seattle, Washington to Boise, Idaho. I got really lucky to be sitting on the right side of the plane! The name Ranier isn't so exciting, the moutain was named by and for a European explorer.

The 1.8f stop is a little misleading. Its basically just the name of the lens. Lenses are usually named by their widest possible aperture. so the lenses I took the photo with is called a 50mm 1.8. Its a great and affordable lens in my opinioni. I think this photo was probably taken at a 2.8f stop, as its the sharpest with this particular lens.

You are correct in the fact that a wide aperture of 1.8 produces a great depth of field. However, when your focusing on a subject so far away their ceases to be any depth of field. so the entire picture is sharp. Hope this helps!

thanks for your comment,

Dave

i don't quite know why the colours in the vent turned out so saturated, just the way the picture developed...creepy place though...this was just a storage facility in a large 2 turret compound that was about 1000 feet above sea level (overlooking a 1000 foot cliff) and had been completely overtaken by the forest. It was a two day kayak trip to reach...worth it though..

thanks for your comment Lydia, I shot this picture in Nikon NEF format and adjusted the colors with Capture NX. Most of the adjustments were to increase the overall brightness and selectivley add saturation to the sky and contrast and sharpening to the mountain. ill include a copy of the original as well.
Thanks again for your comment!

FYI, if you select the panoramic catagory you can post the full size picture...
it kinda defeats the purpose of the site if you have to change site's to view images...
