How fun! (That may sound like a Chinese name, but no..just a bit of license with the tongue. I can feel the day of that test flight...the staid enthusiasm of what HAS to be Brit model plane guys waiting to discover whether or not their unit really HAS wings. Did it?

Yeah, my 1999 was a bit like that too... so were 1994-1998, too, as I recall... LOL... really enjoying this set of b&w English scenes.

Cheers,

Incredible sense of scale - between the shoes and those little, tiny, DISTANT people on the deck far below... scares the bejeezus outta me. Nicely done.

The quality of the 4X5, plus your skill and talent made this image for an internal place like this one, and with all of those different angels and with this amazing sharpness, is for sure very impressive and so pleasant to view.

Wishing you all of the best Mom

I am just beginning to learn how to meter. Although, my camera is not too sophisticated. I really like the way the lines in this draw one's eye to various sections of the scene.

Helen, do you mind sending me an email at 4mpb at netscape.ca I have a question for you. Oh, in the subject mention UF so I'll recognize it and not delete it. Thanks.

I love it, Helen. It is coincidence that I would see it today as yesterday, I was trying to capture a sun halo and sundogs. It did not work for me. You got a marvelous image. Terrific.

Hi Jo,

Thanks very much for the compliment.

It's an Ebony RW45 - the simplest (and cheapest!) of the Ebony 4x5 cameras.

Best wishes,
Helen

Helen...what a cacophony of lines and shapes and shadows and artistic use of perspective. Those greeen steps really help lead the eyes around the image. Powerful!

Dear Helen

I have been trying to track you down after seeing your Hoppings Fair 1973 pictures on the Net, left in circa 2002.

I am a local history author from Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham, England, but residing in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My first book was about Houghton Feast, an ancient festival, fairground and ox roasting in Houghton.

These past three years I have been compiling a book on Newcastle's Town Moor Hoppings.

I'd like to use three of your 1973 photos and should be very grateful if I could have permission to do so. Would you be able to email me copies if possible?

Also, do you have any memories of the Hoppings which you would like to share?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks Helen for sharing this unique photo.
I still shoot Kodachrome 64 quiet a bit, but must confess that I have cheated a little and shot Velvia and Provia.
This is a mastwerful shot that only Kodachrome could be used at. Seven..
