Sorry had been away for a while.

Your method proved useful for other images, but not this particular one. Thanks!

Btw, I'm a computer science major .. still can't figure it out

thanks dude.. Though it involved quite some cropping - that also is the reason why quality isnt too good.

Sorry, two things I forgot to include. First is this cool calculator:

http://fclass.vaniercollege.qc.ca/web/mathematics/real/Calc ulators/GcdLcm_Calc_1.htm

And the second is the original dimension which is being pared down to 850 or 840: 3072.

Ah, I see the setting you are talking about. Bicubic is the default so I guess that's what I've used every time.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you will want to select a dimension that is mathemetically related to your original image, so that they have a common denominator. All I can guess is that when you resize to 850 it doesn't work out from your original dimension and so something gets altered as the math works through the reduction.

For instance, if I change my large dimension from 850 to 840 the greatest common denominator changes from 2 to 24. I don't know if this is the right math path to follow, but surely it's something like this.

Any math folks care to chime in?

I follow the same process. Only that, when you get the box to change the dimensions of the image - at the bottom you can select different methods of resampling - i tried all. Different images looks better with different methods. But with this particular photo, the quality was going down always.

Interesting. I don't know that way. I just go into the "Image" menu and choose "Image Size...". From there I make certain the ratio is locked and make the longer dimension 850 pixels. Then the only other thing I do is "Save As..." so that I can choose the compression ration to ensure that my file size is small enough for upload.

Please let me know if this method works better or worse than your current method. And if it works better, please describe the process so that I can follow your footsteps.

Thanks for the comment Lily. After looking carefully, I do see the tilt. I do have photoshop, but not really familiar with it. I will check it out.

Hey I know this place. Hi Milan, I like the toning and how you caught the waves in retreat. There might be a slight tilt. If you are using photoshop i have a quick fix for that using the measure tool.
