Neil, I found your picture searching on Yahoo for a sample photograph taken with a Canon EOS Camera and the Olympus 8mm Fisheye Lens. This combination is noy usual and hard to find.

Looking at your picture I can guess that you croped the original photo.
I have the oportunity to buy this lens and need to look hos does the lens work on a Canon.

If possible, could you send me a sample picture taken with your combo CanonDigital-Zuiko 8mm in full reslotion un cropped to my e-mail address (roberto@tiempo-digital.com) ?

Hope is not too much to ask for. =)

Best regards from Mexico City.
Roberto Gomez Torres.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks Drica!

Mattias, as most of the stones on the world are in the Northern hemisphere, clearly the south is lighter and prefers to be on top. Your map-makers of the north got it wrong (again)... ! :-)

Taras, you are right about the exposure, but this was exposed for 1 second already, and I didn't want motion blur to become a factor (the Moon could be seen creeping along in the viewfinder!).

Neil,

Nice color. Good work. This one could use a bit more exposure, but it is hard to judge how dark an eclipse will get. The best bet is to bracket exposures.

Thanks Andrew!

I should confess that this is actually a composite - I only had my digital P&S with me at the time (and you know how fast these colours change!), so I took a quick photo to get the sky as it was, and then raced home and took a decent photo of the Moon with a longer lens (and tripod). Still, the 2 photos were taken within 30 minutes of each other, and (as you can verify) the composite does accurately reproduce the scene :-)

So, it is not for the purists, but I long ago gave up being a purist in favour of presenting a scene as I saw it...

Thank you - and everybody - for your comments!

Neil, it's funny. I was looking at this same scene (in Sydney) on the same day at about the same time you took this. See, it pays to do and not only to think about it. I like it. I also noticed that it wasn't quite full but now realise that it doesn't look any worse because of it. I also like the moon on the lower right, this way you caught most of the richer colour above it. Well done and well spotted.

The 10D is very good - it is not a 1D of course, but it has a lot of very useful features - like mirror lock-up, for example. I've been very happy with it! I do miss a full-frame sensor though, as I love my ultra-wides, and I also like to have shallow DOF sometimes (both of which the smaller sensor fights against!!).

Beautiful simplicity, and lovely color. How do you like the 10D? I've got a 1D mkII on order and am thinking of a 10D as a second body.

Sérgio, thank you for the kind words, but I realised after you commented that I had given incorrect information - it wasn't shot with a Canon G2 as I first listed, but with a 10D & 500mm f/8 mirror lens. Perhaps this could better explain the clarity in the Moon?! :-) Sorry for the mis-information, you were too quick for me!!

Thanks for your comments guys :-)

Paul, I was already thinking about making a high- to ultrahigh-contrast version of this anyway, so we are thinking along the same lines here... The light & shadow is the main feature, so more contrast would be worth looking into!

Nice capture Neil, excellent composition and DOF!

I'd like to see this one with a little more contrast, but that's just me. I'm sure you know by now that I'm nuts for high contrast.
