I think this is awesome. Is this the inspiration that a new D2H brings.

Hot rate with these is insane at the best of times, but to get it sharp just on the helmet is most unusual. Well done.

Wow, who took the time to string all the lights? The outcome is amazing... and the warmth of the light gives it a cozy / Christmas feel.
The angle of the image is a nice touch as well... gives it an add sense of interest.

Excellent perspective and DOF... I like the simplistic background and complimentary colours!
Perhaps this could have been made a teeny bit better with a little more light on camera left side, but still... it's a lovely photo.

Wow - technically superb; I love the balance and the lines. Add the colors and reflections, and I do believe you have a winner.

Super shot Mark. These are very hard to get - especially at a 40th. Did you use rear curtain sync on the flash.

Think the pic would have been that little bit better if the framing placed the subject just a tad higher in the frame.

So gorgeous! :-)) Very cute dog, and you captured it great! I think background and light is great too! Perhaps... if I look really hard, I might feel that there a soft pink tone in the dogs fir.

Thanks, everyone. Good points, Leslie. The shot is cropped quite a bit (the original wasn't square) and I'll experiment with some other crops.

subject is not necessarily the most original, but it certainly is a grand capture of a most magnificent bit of architecture...the red on the white is a real draw to bring the viewer in...the angle from which the shot was taken shows the building at it's best...colors are vibrant and exposure on the white is good...I wonder if you had taken just a couple of steps back and placed the lighthouse slightly to one side of the frame...probably the right, if it would not have improved the composition...though I do like it as it is on a personal note...

It was my ambition, when I was younger, to have a street-legal GT-40. Well, my present ZX2 is ALSO a ford! I like this backgound, which could almost be out in the world (instead of a museum) with some judicious blurring.

Thanks, Kurt. I definitely will check out that web site and I'll have a look at your portfolio. The fabric is corduroy from a big fabric store chain that had it on sale. I also got some green felt material. Both seem to be hair magnets so I'll have to be careful of that.

Dave, I was wondering if someone would comment about that. It bothers me a bit, too, because his darker fur does blend in a bit. I'm going to try to use the lighter-colored material for darker animals, assuming I have time to change between appointments. I tried that on one of my cats, who's a very dark gray, and it seemed to work well. A background light or maybe a hair light would help with the separation and I'm going to experiment with that on my critters this week but, as you say, that might be difficult because they don't sit still for long. I know what you mean about their expressions. We have two dogs and three cats and I have varying degrees of success with them. No doubt I'll encounter the entire range with the customers' pets.

Here is my attempt to show how stupid I am, but I would try to separate the dog from the background. Seems the dog blends into the background too much. Either a slight change in the color ... maybe a little lighter or a light on the background. I know the little guys don't always want to sit while you fiddle with the lights.

My dog puts this stupid expression that gives the impression "Why are you pointing that thing at me?" and none of the photos are worth much.

Mark,

Really nice picture!

I own a Great Dane (see my portfolio) which we do shows with (see my portfolio).

On one of the shows I met a guy ho is living from dog photography. On the show he is the photographer in ?the ring of winners? and has a lithe studio on site. Maybe look at his website to get more ideas.
http://club.euronet.be/karl.donvil/

But looking at your picture I don?t think you need more info/ideas!!!

What kind of fabric store did you went too for the backdrop (I have interests as well), is it a curtain?
