it is really a nicely spotted motif, however I think you`ve overdone the S&H PS filter.
also usually I try to crop things that reveal the real nature of things - by cropping the bottom you can make people wonder what is this? (if that`s what you wanted to achieve

The foreground is a kind of vegetation, some local form of grass maybe? I think that lamas eat it.

Yes, I have used a polar filter. On this altitude it is working really strong - making the sky almost black !

nice observation, Todd!
looks like the "second nature" of this street lamp. normally it stands up straight - "erected and proud" , and here on this shadow you`ve shown that it looks rather more "miserable, depressed and shy". so it makes for a nice contrast!
