Interesting perspective. At first I thought I was looking at a small creek bed. Not until I read your note about animal tracks did I realise the larger scale. Very clever. Still hard to get a perspective of scale here :-) I better look up the Painted Hills.

Hi Paul, Enjoying looking through your images. The HDR blend seems to have darkened the left 1/3 of the image. You might want to re-try the HDR software you are using as I am sure it has inmproved since 2009. Nice composition.

To answer Vijay's question (comment 1) The Hay has what is known as Silage Wrap. Some farms put slightly green hay into a silage pit, cover it with plastic sheets. THe hay (silage) is quite sweet and has a fair amount of moisture. This method is a similar way to get Silage without a huge pit. Hay, by definition had been left out in the paddock to substantially dry out. Silage is mainly for dairy cattle. Sorry for the disertion :-)

Composition is wonderful. Focus seems to be on the centre of the tail rather than say the eyes or head area.
I think stopping down to 5.6 or f8 may have helped.
But good work just the same - well done

Excellent - Of course having gone to the trouble of getting rid of all the people ( Winter Shot right?) you should have raked teh sand as well. Just Kidding. Saw a program on Current affairs 2 years or so ago - apparently tehse are privately owned and on the program they showed one couple paying $270,000 at Auction for 1 - I think the realestate was about 18 square meters.

Thanks Joanna - It's true that during summer there can be lots of snakes around. Just Guessing you were camping late February or perhaps March. There are 3 rules for walking in summer,
1, Take a stick and bang it on the ground - make lots of noise while walking.
2, Always have someone else walk ahead
3, Always go hiking with someone who runs slower than you.
Cheers

That is very flattering Nicole. I do try very hard to get my composotion right and it is great when it is appreciated. There are two aspecst of this image that I enjoy- One is that it was so unexpected. I was actually on my way to another spot about 10 minutes away, and the other that this spot is so close to my home so I am reminded again how fortunate I am - to live where I do.

Thanks Mario. The Crop is from 35mm. There was extra sky and extra darke foreground but they did not add anything to the image - Thanks again for you comment.

Dunes facinate me - there is always so much potential for a photo shoot. The strong light from the side makes this stand out. Lovely shot

Where are these falls exactly ?
Sometimes the picture is "in" the picture. I am not saying that the crop I have sugegsted here is better - just showing you that sometimes a section of a scene can be interesting as well, but I know you already know this. If your down this way email me and I can take you to some Tassie Scenery. dtasker@netspace.net.au

I just checked the upload and the image seems darker than my original - In my original the comet is quite visible. This small image shows where it is. I realise this is not a great shot of the comet - I do have others taken a few weeks before - but what makes this interesting to me is teh bridge as well.

Haha - Well even if I had a studio ( I don't) its back in Tasmania - like a 10 hour Internation flight follwed by a 1 hour domestic flight. Just imagine carrying one of these on board ( unlight of course) They are over 1 Metre ( 3 feet long.
I guess I better stick to landscapes -

Thanks James. Lighting was a problem. All of the cones ( dozens) were hanging in the centre of a large open segment of the roof. There was quite a breeze and much of the smoke was disipated.
The open roof was the light source and quite strong as you can see from the samll image I have included. The prayer cone image was one cone that was at the edge of the opening and the inside ceiling became the backdrop. And as you can see there is plenty ( to much) light on the ceiling as well. This cone and just afew others was one of the few cones that actually had a spiral of smoke because it was out of the main breeze. Noe - if this all reads as an excuse for not doing a better job, its not meant to be - Just giving some info on the realities of the shooting situation. Next trip - without the tour guide.

Hi Jacques,
This is so similar to an image I posted on Usefilm in 2005 http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=952161 - These slot canyons are amazing places and there are many more but not quite so easy to get to. Have a look at Buckskin Gulch you dont need to hike the full legth. I did a hike from Wire pass - 2 hours in and 2 hours out gave me a really good sample. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0505/classic_tr ails_02.html

I love the rule of thirds and I believe that the
3rds rule of composition will more often or not give you a better than ordinary image - but breaking the rule makes a lot of sense in so many intances - in this image it works for you because of the strong foreground object.
If you look at http://www.usefilm.com/image/1003721.html - I have the reflection more or less smack in the middle - but in each of the left to right 3rds there are "features" so the 3rds rule is broken - but heck - what else could I do. Love your work.

Pat
Thanks for the honesty and detail of filters.
I have looked at your images many times and always thought - oh - I could do that I just need a 2 or 4 stop ND filter and so on. I also thinnk that a lot of your images are underexposed - but O know that is not so - its a technique I use to increase colour saturation = anyway - I am sure you dont need me to tell you that ypu have soke wonderfull images - mine are perhaps more traditional - www.davidtasker.com

You have some wonderful images and this is one of the best - It reminds me a little of one of my own http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1221841 that was taken in England in 2006 because of all the birds nests in the trees.
I also liked the boat http://www.usefilm.com/image/1248925.html which rmidned me of similar scenes in Eassouira, Morocco plus I thought "Gate" was good - an ordinary subject captured well

Keep up the good work - I will check back often and look at your images.
