I think too much of the white in the picture is burned out. I believe you would get a better result by taking a darker exposure and then adjust levels in PS.

Very cinematic, almost "noir" effect. I'd like to see a little dodging to bring out the iris in the eye while keeping the hard contrast with the rest of the image. Nice composition, and gutsy using a TLR for closeup work (to strong effect!)

Why don't you selenium tone the man in the printing stage so that he does stand out. This would be a subtle but intruiging effect.

Looks surreal. I especially like the tonal gradients that change as the columns converge in the center. The dead-on symmetry is nice, too. Any chance you could get a better scan and post it larger?

Thanks for the kind comments! I am proud of this series, and the prints look way better than this jpeg. It was done with about an 8 second exposure on a fast "moving" sidewalk (like an escalator but faster), metered externally for the dark areas. The place is a photographer's delight, if you're ever in the National Gallery of Art.

I like the "old" feel that this image portrays. I wonder what it would look with a sepia tone... sometime sepia can add a warmth, but still retain the classic feel. A wonderful capture and a scene to remember!

Thanks Robert...you made my day! Alot of times when I comment on peoples work I just hope that the maker of the image takes it in the spirit that it is given. I'm not always right in my assessment because alot of times its a personal thing rather than a technical correction.
Anyway...thanks so much for showing your appreciation...I know that all the people that comment in here appreciate members like you *smile*....Maggie

Thanks again Maggie! Unfortunately I do not have any color version of this -- only XP2 Super. However, I can easily go back to the location I took this and experiment more, perhaps with Scala.
People either seem to love this image or hate it -- I guess it's like any other abstract art. I don't have many abstract images, but personally I love straight lines, and will continue to work on images like this till I can get a print that works.

Thank you for the kind comments and criticism - I very much value it. Michel, XP2 is asa 400, and is an amazing film. It is processed standard c-41, and can be printed on both color or b&w paper, yielding different results. XP2 is about as sharp an asa 400 print film as you are likely to see, and you can easily shoot it at asa 800 with hardly any increase in grain. I think it is fantastic for an all around street film (and it's cheap!!).

I see what you mean about the upper contrast, which is a bit high. This photo was taken with the early morning sun burning down on this pier. Maybe I will try to rework a bit with PS. Thanks.

Interesting attempt at building the reflection into the image.
I was having a hard time determining what the focus of the image was. I didn't see the pidgeon at first, until after I read your 'About'. Then I had to really search.
This image didn't quite do it for me, it is very cluttered and complex.
  Just my .02 worth.

Robert I love the colors and drama of this image and I love the tires...but, I find the upper portion of the image says nothing and is too bright against the deep blue and golden colors of the timbers.
I did a crop on this one and its only my vision and I just wanted to share it with you. You did an excellent job choosing and exposing your subject ... I like the image very much....*smile*...Maggie

Hi Robert..interesting perspective on this one but it feels tilted to me. I rotated it a little and I think it looks straighter.
On architecture shots I try to make any verticle line in the centre of the image parallel to the sides of the image. By doing this your building will look straight to the eye.
I have attached the rotated image...see what you think Robert. Now I have to go look at the rest of your images...seen some interesting ones I want to check you *smile*....Maggie
