Here is a quick, and I mean quick, snap of the original painting.

Hi Lexie. I'm not sure wht you were really going for... I think a snapshot of the painting you are trying to re-create might help us a little... Looking at this I would say that you might want to look at the painting and try to guess where the artist had lights... Also, the scan here looks a little flat. I suspect this is just the scanner though, and not the actual shot.

Jamie~

Not this time. But about a month ago she was looking out the window and a butterfly landed on the screen. Now, I have to tell you that she is obsessed with butterflies. She got all excited and smacked the screen and the butterfly flew away. She came to me crying because she wanted to give the pretty "fly-fly" (that's what she calls them) a kiss but it went away before she got a chance too. When she calmed down she wanted me to go outside and help her catch it so she give it a kiss so it would be a happy fly-fly. It was so cute and we got a good laugh out of it.

I think on the bed is funny as well! Nice, spontaneous and happy shot, if possible, I would try with a different background. Bye Max

Great composition. The light is just perfect. Slightly overexposed due to light reflecting off of house. But still a great image and one to be proud of.

I like your fil ( Kodachrome a great film almost forgotten) There is something about your photography that is capable of being very sensuous. I am not quiet sure what it is but I encourage you to continue to work on it and composition. Nice though.

I agree with Dave. Brave and bold. But I vastly prefer the elegance of the pose in newer version.

Hello Lexie:

I'm going to have to find the first one, but I like this version very much. It has a lot of obscure personal associations for me.

My first experience with photography in the early 50s was making blueprint images from twigs, leaves and toys that were exposed in sunlight and developed over an ammonia bath. I was five. More recently, there were a couple of years in the early 90s when most of my large images were created by dividing a single very high resolution scan into a dozen equal 10x10 squares, treating each as a separate PS file, and making a color laser print of each file before finally reassembling the entire image on a sheet of masonite and finishing it with gesso and usually some acryclic paint.

Anyway, this image suggest a concept which I'm sure you've probably considered and rejected. But to me it seems to be the perfect vehicle for an autobiographical exploration on the eight different faces of Lexie Summers i.e. (just guessing here) mother, photographer, lover, cheerleader, gardner, chauffeur, care giver, disco queen, etc... you get the idea.

Love you work. I'll be back. Thanks for the visit to my portfolio. --Jim

With the softness of the shells and the harshness of the SS

it is clearly difficult...

but you have done well... with what otherwise may have been a lot of overexposure with reflection

Hi Lexie,
I like this photo very much. Great work! Haven't been to Traverse City in a long time. Was one of my favorite places to visit when I lived in Flint for a couple of years.

The grain here, along with the remnants of the removed background make this work very well executed. It provides an artistic, hand drawn, feel that is quite effective. I am sure you can get the grain effect without PS, but the "shadows" around the image will be a bit more of a challenge.....you will need to "burn and dodge" in the darkroom... perhaps even cut a template of your image to allow for darkroom manipulation and (somewhat) even shadowing around your image. Good luck! I love the effect, and am quite impressed!

I like this one better than the other one. It has an aloof quality that has no time associated, it could have been taken yesterday or 30 years ago or in the far future. Timelessness, the CLASSIC qualities, is difficult to capture. In this you have done it very well. I especially like the tiled effect, with the slightly disporportional spacing, and the somber gaze. Well done!

Excellent work Lexie, its very artistic looks a lot like a drawing, I like the grain too. Looking forward to seeing how the darkroom version goes.
