Thanks for the reply! Hehe, I'm glad that this photo has motivated you to think about macros! I enjoy taking closeups, and would like to get a camera with a greater macro one day! For now, I'll just keep going with what I have Thanks for the rating also! :)

Woah. Nice one. What a capture! I love what you have done, with DOF (LOL) and color balance and texture and composition, quite a catch, glad it didn't pop when it alighted on the rug :-)

But above all else: Excellent Macro! 7+!!

I find Macro photography difficult, bought an expensive film camera macro elns and have not sufficently taken advantage... you have started me thinking again. :-)

:) I was at a friend's 21st party, and the idea of taking photos of the bubbles just appealed to me! They turned out well in most of the photos I took of them, and I had fun with this one! Marie

Excellent!! So very well seen! And taken! Good timing, I bet those bubbles don't last long when they get near the carpet!

Congrats!

Hi Colin, congratulations to your featured critique! This is a very good explanation of DOF, should be publicized on an enciclopedia of photography. Best: Gyorgy

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Hello, Marie. Sorry, I didn't realise. DOF, means Depth Of Field. In other words how far your focus is, when you are choosing an aperture, (measured in 'f' stops). For example, if you have a large aperture, say 2.8, there is lots of light getting into the lens. This produces a shallow focus, so that only a small area of your subject is in focus. This is good for blurring back and foregrounds, so you emphasize the subject.

If you choose a small aperture, say f8, then the 'pinhole' effect will make all of your picture in focus. This is good in landscapes.

Sorry that wasn't very concise, but to conclude - low number f stops, (F4 or lower)have a shallow focus, and large number f stops, (f8+) keeps everything sharp!

Hope that helps, Marie

Regards
Colin

Thanks for the comment :) by the way, what is a DOF? Sorry, I've never done photography as a course... so I don't know much of the termnilogy at all! Marie

A cool image, Marie. Lovely spectrum-refraction effect, within the bubbles. An effective DOF, emphasizing the large bubble, and rug weave detailing. Excellent abstract

Colin

Thanks! I hadn't expected such a quick reply :) I put that photo up less than 3 minutes ago! I hadn't even noticed the false patterning, but it adds an interesting effect :)

Very nice, I like the false texture of the bubble caused by the reflected rug. The dof works just fine and the bright colors of the bubbles are nice. Well done~
