About I was Laying in Bed Watching Sportcenter when Saw a flash of light in my window. I peeked outside and was amazed by the show the lightning was putting on.

I got My 5D tri-pod and shutter Release.
Mounted my 24-70mm2.8 Lens

I got outside and positioned myself for a good angel towards the woods
I set the lens to Manual focus. with the Aid of a LARGE flashlight I was able to focus the Trees in the shot.
I set my Aperture to F16....put it on Bulb Mode. Press the Shutter Release and lock it down and wait.
I stood out there for almost an hour and got about 25 different shots of some fantastic Lightning.
Let me know what you think.

A wonderful shot Sam. I have tried on many occasions to capture a lightning shot and have failed miserably. This photograph encourages me to keep trying.

What a great area Prescott must be to live in with a backyard like this. My friends mother lives in Prescott so I guess we'll be seeing some pictures of the snow from you in the winter.

Congratulations on the new home.

I saw this in my e-mails when I returned from holiday the other day and I am glad you decided to post it.. This is a wonderful capture of forked lightning and I am fully aware of the patience needed to get a good shot. The trees look fabulous in silhouette Sam. A big well done my friend.

I am busy flying around friends and associates to say hi after our holiday....it's pointless trying to catch up as too much happens in three weeks. Catch you again soon, I hope Sam. My very best wishes to you all as always.....Ray

Hi Lisa,

This shot was taken from my Back Yard. Kim and I moved to our house here in Prescott, which is why I haven't been around for a while.

Thanks for the comment my friend.
My Best Regards

Very dangerous to go out during a lightening storm. Be careful!

Where was this image taken?

It's fantastic. The focus is right on and pretty amazed you were even able to focus on the trees with the aide of a flashlight.

The exposure is perfect and the bolt of lightening is awesome.

The force of mother nature is an awesome sight to behold.

7+!

Hi Sam,

Very powerful image, and well composed. The almost section view of the lightning lit forest is excellent. Thanks for sharing your approach and camera setting - very useful information!
