Just a quickie addendum SQirl.....I liked your crop as you posted because the girl is looking straight ahead, had she been looking up then a little more room above her head would have been good. Your reasons fro the close crop are the best anyway.....Cheers

Hi Shirley,
Glad you liked the shot! I don't quite know why I like it so much - could be the angles of the fence, the shadow, the wall. Or it could be the girl herself, with her red jacket and her "miles away" expression.
Thanks, I had a nice weekend! Hope you did too. :)
All the best, SQirl

Hi Ray,
I'd love to pretend I always have my camera handy, but unfortunately I spend quite a lot of time lamenting the fact that I left the thing at home when a perfect opportunity crops up! In fact, I was just thinking of carrying my old Sony with me in my pocket wherever I go - it's fairly small and discreet, so there should be no more of those "why haven't I got my camera?!" moments. I'll swap them for "Why haven't I got my D70S?!" moments instead. :)
You like the cropping on this one? I'm in two minds about it, I think. I'd have preferred not to crop so close, really - but without the crop, the top of the hill was really quite distracting. So it had to go. I think the photo is improved by having only the girl in shot, rather than half a dozen random people in the background as well.
Thanks for your comments, Ray! :) SQirl

That's why the best of us always have a camera handy....where-ever we happen to be. She looks quite relaxed about the whole matter though doesn't she?? This is a beautifully detailed composition SQirl and the mono toned version sits well with me as well. I disagree about the cropping comment, but we are all different. Good shot.....Best wishes....Ray

Hi Terry,
I take your point about the cropping - I was thinking that when I created it. The problem with the original shot was the fact that I ran out of hillside towards the top, and I felt that the people at the top of the hill looked a bit messy and drew the eye away from the girl. So they had to go. I chopped them off at the knee and then cloned out what was left. Brutal but necessary. :)
That's a very good point you make about the red jacket - I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! When I saw her, she was just sitting and staring out to sea, lost in thought. It was very much one of those "I must take a photo!" moments, with no time to retake if anything went wrong. I did wonder what was on her mind, actually, but I didn't dare to ask!
I think I see what you mean about the early morning chat. I'd agree, except I don't do early mornings - I stay up late instead. :)

Excellent Pic. Great feel/mood. Good composition. The red in the Jacket (nowhere else) suggests that she's mad about something. She looks a little angry but resigned; perhaps determined. Either that, or she's just fallen asleep. ;) For some odd reason, she looks like someone I'd like to sit down and have an early morning chat with, and believe me, not too many people make me feel that way.
The only thing wrong with this Picture is the cropping. It feels like she's scrunched into a room with a low ceiling.
