Photographer: Jason A. Cina (Karma=-51)
New York, New York USA
About: A native New Yorker, Jason came into photography at a young age but not until his mid-twenties did he begin to practice obsessively. His formal schooling was in stage design where the curriculums required an eclectic array of artistic subjects which, sub sequentially lead him to continually explore other mediums. As a designer, Jason?s perspective of the camera?s view finder is that of a proscenium arch; framing the space and drawing from theatrical points of view and processes to create his images. His subtle (or sometimes grand) use of a broad range of filters is implemented into his photographic concepts. Having a complex palette with which to work allows him to manipulate minute variations in color and contrast that come to define his stylistic signature. Jason?s mind set is a product of both urban and rural living making each environment an equal source of inspiration; however, his innate attractions to organic forms and texture, crisp light and odd relationships of color is a unifying factor. He easily flows between shooting black and white and color whereas those choices are solely based upon mood and composition. In addition, Jason?s employment history has always involved travel therefore affording him the freedom and opportunity to document a wide spectrum of subjects and locals. His recent endeavors have taken him into the Jazz scene where as lighting designer and photographer for a nationally touring sextet he has recorded the performances and adventures of many NYC based musicians. Jason?s Off Broadway lighting design credits include productions at the Irish Repertory Theatre, The Blue Heron Arts Center and The Century Center and many shows at the old Theatre Row theaters. Jason has also designed in numerous Performing Arts Centers, Museums and Road Houses throughout the United States. WWW.JasonAcina.com
