Wow, what a dream car! And perfectly presented, Mark. One of my favorite color combinations is red, grey and black and these come together so fantastically on your pic. A real anthology piece. Cheers, György

Hi Mark

Excellent shot of a simply gorgeous car...keeping the reds and the highlights and at the same time keeping the shadows in the right places all add up to a shot you should be proud of.

Many thanks for your comments they are all appreciated.

Cheers for now

WOW, what a gorgeous "Italian" capture, Mark. You succeeded entirely in your attempt to make the nose dominate. The reflections on the car are outstanding and the background has been adjusted perfectly.
#7/7.
Regards,
Mireille

Hi Ina. Still lifes with silver? Can't wait! I'm sure that ill be awesome. And don't discount on your still life ability, quality of work, etc. Some of the highest quality work of that type on all of Usefilm is yours ("Gourds", "Mother & Child", "Local Pomegranate", "Sinesoid & Parabola", etc). The richness of light and quality of composition of those and other of your shots is exceptional. SO much of your stuff is an inspiration to me. I'm looking forward to more of it!

Best regards,
Mark

I think you achieved a great result! The kit lens is pretty good, it works well for me. I read a lot about the Canon 50mm being exceptionally sharp (the cheap one) but I don't have one yet. That would be excellent for still lifes. I'm inspired by your work, Mark, and I have a long road ahead to produce the high quality images you do. I'm going to attempt some still lifes this winter, possibly with that silverware again :)

Thank you so much for your generous compliments Ina. It really means something coming from you. Yes, I do strive for a certain exacting perfection in the images, I'll confess, yet there are so many artists who do it better than I (yourself, as one example). No false modesty from me here. Yet it is encouraging that you've noticed my intent toward that element of exacting style. I hope to keep making progress!

On this particular shot I was trying to get the nose of the vehicle to dominate the shot out of proportion of the rest of the car. I used the widest focal length the kit lense has (18mm). I must say, I was pleased with the results from that cheap little plastic Canon kit lense. Wonder if the better lenses are really worth the big bucks we pay?

I added the background gradient via PS and tried to show some refraction through the little windshield, color wise. I was getting a bit tired of "First Snow" landscapes and the post processing on this shot provided a chance to do something very different. The lighting highlights/reflections are courtesy of museum halogen lighting for the Ralph Lauren car exibit. Unfortunately the backgrounds were not photogenic at all, but the lighting was great.

Hi Mark, I like how you approach anything: cars, still lifes, grand pianos, macros, landscapes with the same exacting perfection. Beautiful highlights and underside shadows. The front mask looks like a shark. Great cropping and gradation in the background. And the red color is just the right red, hue and all. Excellent work!

Wonderful shot. The short lens really came through on this good angle. A terrific nose job! Fine work . . .

Hi Mark,
I'm so sorry I missed this show :(
This is a great angle to show off this gorgeous old Ferrari.
You have just the right amount of lights reflecting off the car without being too destracting.
Andre
