Your photo is as clear as the water, as brisk as the mountain air and as fresh as the new snow - a wonderful representation.

This is just SOOO pretty. I still love it. If it snows again you should experiment with a pano shot of it. Might be fun? I really think you should make a print of this. You could upload it to Spinnaker and print out a 8x12 or 11x17. Just a thought.

sorry, clarify is a tool in the contrast file of paintshop pro8....don't know what it would be called in photoshop...it isn't the same as levels, tho' levels would boost brightness...if there is a gamma correction tool, that would bring up brightness,too...... i am south of seattle about 52 miles, and we have more snow here, but saw on news that snow will hit across lake WA. sat. and seattle might get some of that.....hope you are leaving in the a.m. and won't be driving back after 4pm when it is dark...take it easy on the freeway! I drive as little as possible in weather like this take care and maybe i will make it up there in the Spring ;>

Hi Gayle, Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure what you mean by level 3 or 4...I'm revealing what a novice I am, right?! :) I did apply levels to this, and it brought out the colors amazingly...it was a bit drab in the original. You're right...I live about 16 miles from Bellingham and our Silver Lake is about 10 or 12 miles beyond us. I hope your weather improves soon. I have to go to Seattle tomorrow afternoon and I'm sure hoping that it doesn't snow!!!!! The cafe is open for business now, so one of these days maybe you should head on up to see us! Kathy

hi, exquisite scenic shot,Kathy!Love the silvery blue palette and the reflections...i would add clarify at level 3 or 4 which would bring up the light just a tad and i would add a tad bit more contrast...i would upload edited version, but the 500x500 is just too small to see subtle differences....overall well composed and a pleasure to view...congrats! regards, gayle (there is a Silver lake south of me,too...but don't you live up near Bellingham?)

Superb painterly winter landscape Kathy! It has it all: lake, mountains, clouds, and winter scenery. Gorgeous colors and tones - the reflections are splendid, and the image is a masterpiece of lighting and subtle tones. This goes straight into my favorites! Good luck with the upcoming cafe opening to you and Susie! PS - the B & W version is also great, wonderful dynamic range!

Beautiful, Kathy! I like the composition and framing, and the subtlety of the colors. There is a nice variety of trees to look at and they stand out nicely along the shore. I also think your letterbox style crop here was an excellent choice, given the horizontal character of the scene. Excellent work!
A VERY small suggestion I might make for this shot is to add a little contrast. What you have is quite natural, but it looks like it may be a little bit underexposed in the low light. I was thinking that a bit of contrast would make the snowy trees in the center of the shot pop a little more and the overall image look a tad more crisp.
On the B&W version, it's hard to compare them side-by-side since the B&W version is smaller (you might consider uploading a full size one as a new image). That said, I think what I mentioned about the contrast goes for the B&W version a bit more strongly. Conversion from color to B&W normally requires a modest increase in contrast because of the nature of our eye's response to B&W vs color. In the B&W image, the snowy trees almost have the appearance of being fall colors, rather than snow and some extra contrast would probably change that. But I think the variety of trees in this image and the ragged clouds lend themselves very well to B&W. You have a good eye to see that.
But whatever else, please don't let my insignificant suggestions detract from this beautifully composed and captured image. This is excellent work, some of your best of this type, I think.
More and more "First Snow" images are appearing on Usefilm from some of our friends in the northern hemisphere, and it's very exciting! It gives us something to look forward to this winter!
Mark

Colour is what I'd prefer here. The tones are subtle yet IMO is what makes the scene extremely moody. The reflection is just awesome.
