About Strange but true: no flower in sight... but the hole slope of Mount Enta near the Crateri Silvestri was literally crawling with these little fellows...;-D!!! It was about 25 ?C at sealevel, but up here it was not more than 10 ?C at the wind was blowing like mad.... brrrr: fleece sweater and windbreaker at the ready and hands deep in pockets.... So what the ladybugs are searching for at 2000 meters... it aint warmth... LOL!!!!

Great contrast between colours and textures Petal. The ladybird is a predator praying on plant lice or maybe ground lice in this instance. Chances are good that the lice are small and the same colour as the volcanic rocks/ashes. Great find.

Very interesting capture Petal - not a usual site to see a ladybug against a backdrop of rocks. However, because of this, it creates a nice contrast with the textures of the rocks against the colorful and smooth wings of the ladybug. Nicely seen and captured.

Oh my, what an unsual sight to be sure. The rocks look monochromatic and there is so much colour in the little bug. To have so many of these in those temps and altitudes is a natural wonder or an unnatural one. What a great capture.

Thank you also for you comment on my Monument Valley image. Perhaps if the photo had been better quality I wouldn't have had the car there but with the quality not so great I left the car in it for fun. Thank you for your comment though. I appreciate your opinions very much.

Cheers - Ann :)

How strange your story is Petal. I thought ladybirds only liked vegetation. It's a lovely little macro and the splash of shiny red in the rocks looks great.Best wishes to you...Ray

Great selective coloring (or is it?) Love the detail and DOF. Wish there were a bit less reflection though and hence sharper colors/dots on the little lady bug.

And you're right it is strange that you'd find so many lady bugs in such a barren landscape. But then I saw pink flamingos in the Bolivian Salt Flats at an altitude of over 3600m with a temperature that easily dropped below -10C - so you never what you'll find and where you'll find it.

Great shot.

Congrats,
Kasia

What a wonderful macro. I like the rough gray background of the rock and the lovely smooth texture and color of the beetle. Looks great together. Beautiful capture.

Hi Petal,

sometimes nature is wonderland ;-) I love that color contrast... it almost looks like selective desaturation. But these stones are for sure that color. perfect format and framing.

best wishes,
Thilo

What a strange place to find them, and really different to see them on rock, the contrast betweent the background and the ladbybird really gives the impression of the volcanic rock. Excellent
