About Flying into Death Valley at dawn. The lack of light created flat, featureless, images of the approaching mountains ... beyond which lies the lowest elevation in the Western Hemisphere, at minus 282 feet below sea level.

interesting shot here mark. the way you described it is precisely the way I would describe most desert shots at low light.

On a related note, as Death Valley has the lowest elevation in the western hemisphere, I should mention I passed through the Tarim Basin in western China, which has the second lowest elevation in the world - approx. 154m.

Best wishes ~ James

hi and thanks for the Monet comment on my image!
This is a shot i am always keeping my eye out for out here in western WA state since we have the Olympics on one side and the Cascade range on the other......this is truly exquisite,Mark...love the layers of blue, the haze and the glow...very nicely composed....
Are you in Maryland,or Jersey?...can't tell where you reside since many destinations listed for each image....regards,gayle

A wonderful capture of the successive layers of mountains. As you say, it looks somewhat dimensionless, with only the different colours giving an indication of relative distance.
