Very nice scene, good composition. I agree with the others that maybe you could improve the blow out with editing?

I did use spot metering, but metered the water instead of the bird (forgot to lock exposure after metering the bird).

Nice capture! I also saw a number of white herons two weeks ago (Millingerwaard). But you got a much clearer picture than I did. Well - I did not have a Bigma with me, of course :) We tried to stalk them, but we were not very succesfull, they noticed us rather quickly. Pity about the lighting... But also with matrix metering you may have to underexpose in this situation because the bird occupies a rather small part of the frame. Maybe spotmetering on the bird could also help in determining the correct exposure.

Lovely image. Can you dull the white with PS magic? Looks like he's walking on water. Nice reflection and great catch. Looks like he's just caught a fish. heers - Ann :)
