The subject area of the photo is great. I think with all the puppies around it at a distance, the photo doesn't really know what it wants to be about. I would suggest a tighter crop, something like the accompanying one. You can enhance the story around the subjects while still hinting at the other things going on around them.

Two dogs in the background and the ball make just a normal family picture quite interesting composition. Nice idea.
