Location City -  Fort Sam Houston
State -  TEXAS
Country - United States   United States
About 1996 US soldiers have been killed in a war that was decided upon by WHIG, the White House Iraq Group. These few people, already decided we would send men and boys to die, went in search of a reason. The phrases that seemed to resonate with the already-frightened American voters were ghastly: "uranium" "WMD" and the often-repeated "mushroom cloud".

Here we stand at a very somber moment: 2000 professionals who went to do as they were ordered, went off to do what they were trained to do, and did not make it home alive to their wives, their children, and their families.

How Many More must die before the trush is exposed and Americans realize we were NEVER in danger from a brutal thug halfway round the world?

How Many More?

Shot this morning at the vast expanse of headstones at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Paul this is such a moving photo, and I wish peace to everyone who sees it.We always are led to war with the words freedom but how free can we be if we are always led to war...

Tom,
If 'democratizing Iraq' was the rationale used to sell this war, then it would be a different matter. They intentionally chose to go to war using reasons they knew, in advance, to be untrue.

Documented mass graves uncovered. Not a threat to you, so let it be, right?

Paul...I have to agree with Rob and Jason. How many more is the question. As many as it takes to continue to keep our nation free from the tyranny that so much of the world lingers in. I would hope that we could use this forum to display a momemt in time and to pose a thought rather than discuss one. Nice photograph. Keep up the good shots.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

Thanks for posting a very important reminder of a current event, thus "photojournalism"...regards,gayle

Very well stated Jason!

Let us all be more diplomatic and artistic in our responses or we are just as worse as the worst enemy ... ourselves!

I must agree with you Rob if your going to be patriotic do it remember that these soliders, any many before died so people can write as we do free. the thing is how many lives have been saved by us, currently serving Australian defence member, and the rest of the deployed forces. please keep posting shots for rememberance of our fallen but do not disrespect them by putting a political tone over the top. they deserve more then that

Paul...I like your work but why do you have to make comments like your "about" when all it is going to do is incite controversy on this site? There really isn't too much in this shot about photojournalism. Were you ever in the military? I was in while that man you said wasn't a threat to us was seizing US citizens that were abroad before the war started. This same man launched bio-terrorism weapons against his own people and was attempting to commit mass genocide. How long must men like that get away with what they do? Regardless of the intentions of our politicians...that man was a danger to the US & Israel and there will be more to take his place.

Awesome photo Paul. The teeth like tombstones/ the black-as night-hearse/the pretty pink and blue banding and the distant soldiers/mourners. Very powerful
