It might also be the reason that you have selected a high ISO setting, like 400 or more. selecting a lower value will produce a smoother effect and would not require a post processing. I am sure you know this.

Beautiful Bill, nicely captured. Exposure and shutter speed seems to be perfect. You ahve captured the mood of fall very well here. I guess the pic is sharpened a little more. A smoothing effect would be more pleasant.It's my opinion though. I took the liberty to edit your photo. Hope you don't mind.
