Thank you so much, Ant. It really helps me when I know what I want to achieve, and work toward that goal, not just do it because it "looks good." This is one of those rare instances. I carry an encyclopedia of art images in my head, and they resurface according to the subject. To the point where this doesn't become a hinderance, it is sometimes useful in recognizing certain qualities in some images. I tweaked especially the golden shades to give it that oil paint glow.

Ina, the more I look at this image (your original) the more I appreciate it, and I'm rather astonished at its quality - of composition, of colour, of lighting, of subtlety, and of visual impact. In short, it's one of those rare "goosepimply" experiences. Added to my faves - to me it's inspired work of the highest quality. Fantastic work.

Season of mists and mellow frutifulness indeed! I rather like your original take on this fabulous image Ina. Bah - subtlety in this Dutch Master still life is EVERYTHING. Likewise, often, there is no such THING as: "more balance", "sharper", "horizontal", "too dark". It's all very subjective, I realise that. But your original pic seems more "authentic" and true to its purpose. It's easy to be swayed, although even you like the brightened Disneyesque version ;-) I do not.

Love this still life. The lighting has a lot of appeal and the basket edge lends a nice textural contrast to the shot. Also, I very much like the darkness in this shot. It gives more highlight to the top gourds, but also lends a deeper sense of a sort of mystery... somehow. OK, I know a basket of gourds is not a very mysterious thing (!), but maybe I'd call this Gourd Noir!

Hi Kathy, and thanks :) You know, it looked OK last night on MY screen, just a tad lighter, and now it's much darker. There were details on the ground (R/H lower corner) quite visible on UF, and now it's all dark. I don't know what happened.

Very nice, Ina! I love the colors and the "feel" of this. I was going to suggest exactly what Margaret suggested. I really like what she did to it. I was also wondering if it was just my screen, but apparently not. I wish (like you) that UF would come up with a way to repost without losing the comments. I have several that I would like to tweak a bit. Oh well!!!

Hi Margaret, and thanks for pointing this out. You are absolutely right! The image seems too dark, and I wonder what happened, since last night it looked OK to me? This morning it is awfully dark. I did darken it on pupose initially so it looks like a still life classical painting, but right now it is too dark, rather unacceptable. I have overdone it. I'd love to restore it to just about the level you suggested, but I wonder if I can restore the comments as well? Thanks very much, as always - your comments are very good and highly appreciated! Ina lovely rich tones and a great composition. On my screen it is a tiny bit dark, when I brightened it I could see the green gourds better. [See more into the basket] It is surprising how much different screens make to an image, what appears dark on one, may be quite bright on another, but this has a wonderful autumnal glow to it. Excellent
