The posts don't bother me at all Anthony. Really good tones in this one. It looks like it could have been taken many years ago. Well done! Kathy

Another great timeless image, reminding me of Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother" series, and images of the Dust Bowl. I know it's not the same, but that was my first thought. Great sepia treatment, and the posts do not bother at all, they're crooked and uneven, and fit in with the rest of the scene. There is no sign of mechanization, and the empty sky focusses the viewer on the notion of work and hardship. Rated: 7/7 (for the informal barometer).

Susie, as for "respect" I agree with all my heart and I deeply hold to that too. Who can sit in judgement? Not I, nor you, nor anyone.

Susie, thank you for helping me reflect better on my experience with the Amish. I love Usefilm and its broader canvas of comment for that; different perspectives, not just on images, but what lies behind them. For me, that's what photography is about.

I agree! To ponder the lifestyle and deep seated beliefs is mind staggering. While many of my beliefs line up with theirs, there are also many things I don't hold to. I surely respect them and their lifestyle and am fascinated with these tiny glimpses into their lives. Thank you for sharing this in such a sensitive manner.

Thank you very much Susie. The Amish are incredibly hard-working from my brief acquaintence. Then again, they have a different sort of "stress" than we "English" (that is how all non-Amish are termed by them). And whilst it would be invidious to "compare and contrast", just lets say our two Worlds have similar up-and-downsides. Whilst it's superficially tempting to be in awe of the bucolic, simple lifestyle of the "Plain People", there are issues of wider concern too: by "modern" standards, of restriction, of control, of suppression of artforms of various kinds. jI am very grateful to have been caused even to think about these topice just by being in Lancaster County :)

What a shot from a moving car! This looks like a painting Anthony, or a photo from the 40's. Nice capture...these are my favorite tones for a sepia type photo. A hard working man I'm sure.
