About Subject background: Wonderful Julie Delpy, actress (before sunrise) and singer, seen in a concert in Nuremberg. I was very surprised about her performance... beautiful depressing songs mixed with powerful rock'n'roll.

This time I wanted to share a bit more of the variety of Julie. The pictures show the diminishing light and the versatile play of her - from thoughtful to funny to ANGRY. ;-)

PS concept: mainly BW conversion.

Hi Thilo, You've captured the feel in this one, which makes this series much more powerful than the previous one I commented on (#3) Excellent display of expressions. At first, I felt a bit ambiguous about the presentation, breaking the alignment with the lower right shot, but on second thought, I think it only fits with the mounting anger and intensity of this shot. Shy, sensuous, passionate, building up to pure energy in that odd one out. Very good series.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Angelo,

I know what you mean ;-)

To be honest: Composings of this kind are very subjective, even more subjective than single pictures. They are even more complex than single frames.

So it's IMHO impossible to please all the viewers with the way the pictures are arranged. For me, there is a perfect development of emotions starting from the upper left to the lower right. And at least I see differences in the expressions.

So this time I don't agree with you. My guess is that you always find strange things in such composings depending on the viewer's mind. You've done a lot of composings by yourself lately. There are some which I find "harmonical", while I struggle with others. That's inherent with these kind of composings IMHO.

So in a nutshell: Yes I see your point. But no: I don't agree =)

thx for the honest comment anyway.

Thilo

Nice collage, Thilo, though some of the shots are a bit repetitive, with a very similar pose to one another. Also, I think you need to decide whether to make the frames align, or not. The conflict between regular ordering and only two pictures sticking out leaves one wondering what was so different and special about those two particular images.

A nice presentation of varied expressions Thilo.
You could have taken any individual as a separate image, as you know.
I like the expression in the middle top image. Not too crazy about the arms in this one. The bottom middle is a nice classic pose.

Hi Magnus,

in the festival guide they talked about "chansons". So I thought of French chanson style. Well, the only French chanson she sang was after the show ;-)

I don't know if her CD sounds the same, but there were 2-3 songs that really rock. An old lady near me had to shelter her ears =)

thx for the feedback,
Thilo

I agree totally with Carolyn....amazing convertion. I, just like you, woulds have imagined that she would read poems ar perform like a singer/songwriter....i was surprised when you wrote that she was rockin' hard

I like Julie Delpy as much as the next guy, but I think you maybe have a few too many good shots of her :-) I like the fact that you shot this with a moderate ISO and held your camera very steady instead - that and the nice b/w conversion makes me want to see these individually or at most in pairs.

Hi Thilo,

The strong point of this series is the variety of expressions, all six of them are really different...
I think I would have liked to see Julie's feet in the top three photographs. Do not know if this was possible from your viewpoint, but I think a full body portrait would be more flattering.

regards,
Hermen
