Wonderful scene. They are strikingly beautiful birds. I assume this monster lens was mounted on a tripod at that shutter speed. It is terrific.

Very nice Darlene,
The dark background with the streaks of rain work really well to make the heron stand out. I can appreciate how hard it is to get pictures of these birds. For me, even though the birds are large, they always seem to get themselves up against some un photogenic background. BTW, Your nature photos are some of the best here! And there are quite a few talented nature photographers on this site.

I love this image. Perfect dof, focus so good I see raindrops. I'm charmed by the simple palette of colors, and the composition is so well balanced. Yet what makes this image so good is the expression of shivering cold and wetness conveyed by the bird in full side profile. Outstanding photographic work Darlene, considering you had to protect very expensive equipment from getting wet! ...Gab

Great capture! You've got to be quite the expert at creeping up on your targets. I've realized that it is fairly hard to get one of these birds to become photogenic..... Great pic!
