You have done really well Carol. Most people say that floral shots require a vertical crop...but there are a few instances that require it to be horizontal. When looking at flowers try both angles and you will soon get the right feel.

Carol, I've only recently started taking pictures of flowers but now I see them everywhere (Don't laugh!). This is a very nice shot. It took me a lot longer to start producing shots even that *I* liked. Toshi's suggestion looks good to me, too.

I think Toshi's suggestion on the crop is a good one, though I'd perhaps make it a fraction more central. Nice DOF, great detail on the stem of the flower. And a very interesting flower too. Lovely photo!

Thanks Toshi for your great eye..I had thought of cropping this but wanted to kind of leave it open to suggestions :> I wanted to shoot from a lower angle for just the reason you suggested.
Thanks for taking to time to comment..I know everyone here sees a zillion flower shots a day but to me this was a learning experience and I truely appreciate your time! Carol

Excellent DOF, love it. For a first real floral shot I think you did a great job. If I can make a suggestion, I think a stronger crop would make it stand out a little more. I attached a sample -- just my opinion :)
It's a shame you were limited on the angle too -- if the flower you were focused on was against the blurred green it would look great I think -- still an excellent photo!
Sorry for the long post :)
