About Panorama of the aurora display of July 9/10 2005, from La Verendrye Forest Reserve. This is a montage of six exposures. ISO 400.

This aurora came as a bit of a surprise - was glad I remembered to bring the camera with me :) Not the brightest or most active aurora I've seen, but the colors were very pretty!

The Big Dipper is visible left of center.

Hi Mary,

Thanks!! It seems there is almost always some kind of aurora that can be seen at La Verendrye, even when none of it is predicted. Perhaps the combination of being a little further up north, an ink dark sky and flat horizons makes it more frequently seen than at our other sites.

Thanks Barry! It was indeed a very special and beautiful night to be under a clear dark sky.

Fabulous panorama, Pierre. Grand colours. I'm glad you brought your camera, too. We didn't see this one where I was.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks! These colors are very much true to what the camera captured. I must say that the camera picked up lots more colors than could be seen to the eye. The only PS editing included adjustment on the levels, noise, resize and sharpening.

Because these are full frames stitched together, it helps minimize for noise too.

This is beautiful. Are these the "original" colors? Did you have to compensate for noise? Great job!
