Thanks, Liz. I agree - it would have been stronger that way. I cropped bits off of top and bottom to bring it down to an 8 x 10 format, but the tree top was mostly lost in the shadows anyway (it wasn't quite so dark when I took it, but I metered for the sunset and let the shadows take care of themselves). A higher vantage point would have done the trick too. I like Ians comment about the compositional prospects of tree branches vs tree trunks.
Jon, I like your composition here, and the tones are great, however I would have liked to have been able to see the top of the tree too. Perhaps it wasn't possible given the conditions? Liz
Hi Jon, nice cloud detail against the setting sun. I would have liked to have seen more of the tree top sillouetted against the sunset.There are more composition prospects, in tree branch sillouettes, than the trunk of the tree. Ian Pearson
