Vibrant colors...... perfect focus and DOF... you caught this hummingbird very well!!! My attempts to photograph one have not worked out well, so far.

The irridecent colors on this hummingbird are just outstanding, Lauri. The sharpness and detail put this in the "super" class. Well done! Larry

Thanks Dirck! You're too kind. :) I lucked out with this guy b/c he sat still for quite a few minutes and let me snap away. I have a few more of this bird that I'll post soon. They really are quite stunning little birds.

This is great shot with beautiful details, who recognized this bird it is indeed to include the tail, by including you have to suffer the details and it will be so small in the frame, superb work. Saeed

Wow - Laurie this is incredible! The sheen on this little guy's feathers is quite amazing - I don't know if I've ever seen a good photo of a hummingbird that wasn't in flight (but now I have! :) The coloration and the long tail are reminiscent of a Quetzal - Guatemala's national bird, but they're larger and don't have that irridescence.

Laurie, I just searched for some images of this bird and it really does have a long tail! Now that I see that, I think you did a great job on choosing to get a close-up shot to grab all the details.

Thanks Linda! He actually sat for a little while and let me snap a bunch of pictures. I was maybe a foot away from him when I shot this one. I have a full length image of him that I'll post soon. In addition to tons of butterflies, Butterfly World also has a hummingbird aviary. Hummingbirds are so small and so fast I probably would never be able to find (let alone photograph) one in the wild!

P.J., Thanks for your comment. This particular hummingbird has a very long tail (I think the longest of any hummingbird species). So I had to decide between getting him all in frame or getting more detail. In this image, I went for detail, but I have another that shows his long beautiful tail. :)

Thanks Toshi! This hummingbird is a jamaican steamertail and it has a really really long tail. I wanted to get some good detail on this guy so I shot close and cut off part of the tail. Not to worry though, I have a full length image of this guy that shows his entire long beautiful tail. :)

Nice capture Laurie. I really like the colors and DOF. But you cut off the tip of it's poor tail ;) If it was a tighter crop on the bottom I think it would be fine, but just to have a little of it missing kind of distracts me :)
