About I'd always thought that if I could ever take macros I'd like to take an insect. Well, I found I collected an ant in this recent attempt. I use quite fast film and I notice that grain is much more obtrusive in the darker, out of focus areas. Here, I've tried to smooth it out but I have mixed feelings about the effect. Comments?

A wonderful Macro, Roger.

I've recently bought an old canon SLR, and when digitized I noticed serious grain on dark images. Sometimes It looks great, like here on your flowers.

And you can't beat film for getting a realistic subject, (if it works). The rose on my "For Mam" is from film, the other two flowers (poppies)are digital. I think the rose is the best of the 3 flowers on that image for realism.

The highly saturated 800 often works great for macro or long tele, the grain is visible in the background mainly, powerful colours !

Hi Rog,

Grain is not obtrusive, it does look a little unnatural but it certainly gives the flowers "pop".

Cheers

I don't think he does, Mary. I would have told him, but I didn't notice him until I scanned the negative!

Great 1st insect shot. I hope the ant knows how special he is. Wonderful shot.

Don't find the grain obtrusive, It adds to the 3D effect Roger, glorious colours!Nice shot.
