About On America's birthday we should all remember what LIBERTY means. In Webster's dictionary it's defined as - not confined; free. Permitted; allowed. Unfortunately in America today there are groups that want to IMPOSE their beliefs and opinions on the entire country - that is, take away other's freedoms for their own personal gains and reasons. It's a sad time for America because that's not what this country is suppose to stand for. If freedom is no longer understood by the masses than we might as well ship Madam Liberty back to where see came from, France, and in her place put up a statue of a famous Dictator.
PS used to color shift (the Statue of Liberty's normal color is green) and sharpen / crop

Easy question, hard answer? maybe everyone has his own version of freedom and these different versions sometimes do not coexist hence wars, conflicts, terrorism, preventive war and so on. For me freedom is respect and to be respected in every way. Thanks for this shot, as usual in many of your photos, it forces us to think. Ciao, Max

Very GOOD Mark,

Yes, what you say about Liberty is unfortunately SO TRUE! I won't elaborate more, I've already read the rest of interesting comments.

But I do like Madam's new outfit, the color suits her well!

Lori :)

Mark, careful. I don't want you thrown off uf. Be good!

Your picture is lovely though. I rather like Lady Liberty in purple and blue. They're good colours for her.

...Paul, I get the feeling you've been re-reading 1984 or something. Dear Leader - that's GOOD - I'm gonna use that one.......

Dear Elisa, Yes , I know very well (and I'm personally VERY unhappy about that). The interesting thing to me is I'm surprised, as a person who has family and friends all over Europe (from Sweden to Italy) and who lives in Europe (Paris) parttime (but not lately due to the very weak dollar) that you don't understand Americans have no control over their Government WHAT SO EVER.(unless they contribute EXTREME amounts of money to their political campaigns) All my French friend and family / friends living elsewhere in Europe know this. I TOTALLY understand your unhappiness with the US government (50% of American's are just as unhappy) but I haven't got any power to influence what they do..... Please read my front page bio (next to my picture) to get a feeling for how i feel about people like Mr. Bush and his gang. BTW, Finland's a nice place, well,Ive only been to Helsinki but found it very enjoyable and interesting... No hard feelings, I UNDERSTAND FULLY why people are upset around the world. I'm just saying basically what Angelo above said much better (and shorter)
And to Guido, which country? hmmm, let me think. I don't know...Alabama? I would pick Tom Cruise for the Dictator Statue..... just a little joke for a Monday :~>

Mark, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Do they still teach that in schools?

Nobody wants to question the current doctrine. The politics of fear is winning.

BTW, nice photo.

Dear Mark, I?m referring to the rising US debts; during the George W. Bush administration US has turned from one of the biggest loangivers to the biggest loantaker ...

I totally agree Saeed - the Madam should stay here. The problem is there are groups in America that forget what she represents. (I don't think she'd be too unhappy with the French cuisine - LOL. Waiting for your next shot Saeed - take care, Mark

I like the classic great composition of the liberty statue, Dear Mark history never come back it is gone the life cycle is going on, you can not send back the liberty statute alone ,if you consider it imported and not representing what its for, then many ?things? almost the entire country been imported. IMO the Americans are still great people, friendly and exceptional comparing to many others if we separate the country political from the normal persons, like me and you. Enjoy the freedom and leave the Madam where it is, sending it back she will have language difficulty and wont adopt the French life after all those years :)Saeed
