About In celebration of the first day of Summer (yesterday)
For the past 5 days, I have not been receiving my UF emails. It is very frustrating. I can't seem to get it sorted out. So, I have not been able to read any replies from you. If anyone asked a question, I am sorry for not replying. Hopefully, this can be fixed really soon.

Many thanks Mary - and also for your kind visits in my portfolio. At first reading it is not absolutely clear what you explain but I shall sit with a picture and I am sure I shall figure it out with your guidance. Thanks again: Gyorgy

Gy---and made sure there was black on the inside section. That seemed to help with the depth effect.

Mary Brown   {K:71879} 9/27/2005
Hi Gy. I'm glad you still like it. I am not good with PS--am just learning little bits and pieces as I go along. So, those experienced with PS would shake their heads at my method and certainly be able to give you a much easier and less time consuming way to do this, I'm sure. However, I'm stubborn and will spend time trying to do something if I have an idea. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Anyway, here's what I did for this. I suppose it's layers. I cropped and framed the picture; then made the canvas size bigger using what I thought was white (should have used transparent), cut each outside piece from the original uncropped picture and pasted each to match on the framed version; then erased the background that didn't belong on the pasted pieces. I hope that makes some kind of sense.?

Hi Roger, it's considerate of you to notice and to comment. Well, I'm not a grandmother yet. It seems my grandchild has his/her own adgenda. Soon though!
Thanks for the suggestion. I would sure like to do something special when I have some time. Hopefully, something creative will come to mind.

Dear Mary, until cameras come with a little pop-up indicator that says "press now" when the image is beautiful, I think you are considerably cleverer than any camera! I merely use the knowledge and experience aquired over a lifetime of on-again off-again film photography, little of which is much use on digital cameras.

  0

Mary Brown   {K:71879} 6/30/2005
Roger, thanks for your comment. Actually, I did not use any special lens. I just used the 'Flower' setting on my camera. I really don't know how to best use the manual settings yet, so mostly use the Auto mode and Scene Modes on my digital. Right now, my camera is smarter than me for picture taking.
Take care of you.

Thanks, Patrick for your comment and suggestion. I really like your suggestion--it would look very neat. Now, if I can figure out how to do that for another time, hmmm. Now that you have put the thought in my head, I'll have to give it a try when I have some time.

Thanks for your comment, Angelo. I tried to explain how I did this framing in a response to Gilberto under this picture. It took a lot of work as I really don't know how to use PS very well. So, I am sure there was a faster way. However, I wanted to try this idea.

Argh! I'd just decided to let a macro lens I'd bid for on E-bay go, as it was getting out of my price range, and then I see a gorgeous shot like this. I think I'll have sniff around the SH shops in Tokyo... I do so want to start taking good macros. I particularly like the way the flowers are bursting out of the frame in this one.

A wonderful photo, Mary. I especially like the way it pops out of the frame. I think it would look neat if the frame started in the corner as the same purple color and gradually changed to the blue color of the other flowers. Well done!

Mary,

The flowers are very beautiful and your work with the framing is very nice. I must admit to having no idea how this is done. Then again, I don't think I have many shots that would suit this type of overlapped border.

I think you know that with the color combination I would not care if your photo was less than perfect, but to combine those colors and such a sharp photo is excellent. Your framing with the flowers protruding though the frame caps it off very nice. Del.

Sue, I finally got the eamil sorted out. Then i read your note and smiled. You were absolutely right about the spam. I had not done anything, but between my computer's anti spam program and my Internet Providers anti spam filtering I started missing a fewthings the other day. On UF, I was fine with the picture comments as I could read them in my portfolio. However, any replies to comments I had made were lost in cyberspace somewhere. Thanks for taking the time to make the suggestion.

Hi Gilberto, thanks for the comment. Anyone who is a familiar user of PS will probably shake their heads when I explain as I am sure there is a better and easier way to do this. I suppose it is layers. I cropped and framed the picture; then made the canvas size bigger using what I thought was white, but I see it shows a little; cut each outside piece from the original uncropped picture and pasted them to match on the framed version; and erased the background that didn't belong on the pasted pieces. I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Dear Mary, I wanted to send you a direct e mail, but I don't know if I got the address right.
It must be very frustrating for you not to receive comments and for me, not knowing if you received them,. So please acknowledge this comment if and when you get it.
I'm glad I could be of help in respect of your "Mist" photo. The present photo is already among my favorites, because by letting the flowers burst out of the frame, you gave excellent symbolization to the idea of burting summer.
I'm also glad that you were able to see different things in my "From the field 6, 7 and 8" and I thank you for commenting on them.
It seems that these photo, elaborated in P.S. aroused different associations in different viewers.
