The move to DSLR will be good for you. You deserve a better camera! There is nothing to be done about diffraction effects, unfortunately. The only thing you CAN do is to avoid smaller f/stops. This is probably why your little camera doesn't have an f/22 stop! (You wouldn't want to use it if it did.) The best apertures are usually f/5.6 to f/11... Even with DSLRs, there can be problems with very short focal lengths.

Hi Roger,
thank you very much for your indepth explanation,
i hadnot known that diffraction effects.. do you know what should be done to avoid those effects?
actually, compact cams are very restricting machines, i am planning to upgrade a DSLR..
cheers
Baki

But Baki, that doesn't make sense with this image! Your focus should have been set to infinity anyway because there's nothing near enough to require anything else, and also the very small size of the sensor and the short actual focal length of the lens means that at anything above f/11 you are going to get WORSE detail because of diffraction effects caused by light going through such small holes. (Excuse me but I was a physicist before I became a businessman.)

This is a very different kind of image from you, Baki. Beautiful. But I can't see what f22 would have done for it...

Hi Baki,

wow, this is really breathtaking. awesome layers of green and great horizontal composing. the shadow of the clouds add to the image as the two tree do.
