Hi Richard, That DVD was really well put together. The only complaint I have is that it was way too short. Lots of rare footage. Great sound and picture, but a little pricey because of the limited interest, I imagine. The whole disk is probably only about an hour and a quarter long and the price was $38 cdn. Like I said, it was a gift :) I have a few racing images scattered around my portfolio. You may have already seen them. I will occasionally dig some of my old stuff out and try to re-vitalize them. Perhaps you are right about today's drivers Andre. The technology of going fast (traction control, anti-lock, etc.) has removed much of the spectacle. Maybe the new regs will allow that passion to be visible once more. You are so lucky to have seen Gilles at his best in F1. My best memories are of him tossing an underpowered March Atlantic (maybe called an F-B cack then), within an inch of the guardrail at Mosport every single lap. Let me know how you like that DVD. All my old tapes are of motorcycle racing, and this sounds like it might be worthy of purchase. Silverstone, and Toronto this weekend. It should be exciting!

Hi Richard, I'm lucky enough to have great memories of being at two of Gilles Villeneuve's most famous races. His first win in Montreal and the United States Grand Prix that he did that amazing lap in the rain 11 seconds faster than anyone else. I think today's drivers do have the passion. Look at the way Alonso drove on Sunday! It's just that the cars today don't go fast when driven spectacularly. Smoothness and precision are rewarded with the fastest lap times and most efficient when it comes to saving the car, tires and other components. It's much more of a chess game now a days. I'm going to watch my old fart dvd called "50 Years Of Formula 1 On Board tonight." I got it for Father's Day. This dvd has narration by Moss, Stewart and Mario Andretti. It is all on-board cameras (attached to the cars) of Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Senna and Schumacher on all kinds of tracks. In 5.1 surround. I'll let you know how it looks and sounds. Andre

Yes Andre, Gilles was the master. He may not have had the results on paper, but few drove as hard or as skillfully. Senna of course, Ronnie Peterson, and maybe Didier Pironi before he was seriously injured, were similar in style. The only drivers I see today that consistently exhibit the same "drive the wheels off" enthusiasm are Paul Tracy, and Tony Stewart from Nascar. Today's F1 seems to be populated with drivers that are highly skilled, but have no passion for actually racing. Guess I sound like an old fart today. Nice result for the youngest Villeneuve yesterday.

Hi Richard, Yes F1 was more exciting recently... until yesterday! I'm afraid Jacques will always be in the shadow of his father, even though his accomplishments look much better on paper. Andre

You are right about Jacques, Andre. He must lead an exciting life, perhaps too exciting for my tastes. I wonder if despite the criticism, he is still to be considered the greatest Canadian driver of all time. Formula 1 does seem more exciting this year, and it certainly has been unpredictable.

Hi Richard, It was a bit of a shame how BAR handled Villeneuve. But, he was partly to blame as well. We shouldn't feel too sorry for him. Even with all the current criticizm, he still has a much more exciting life than we do :) It's nice to see Coulthard doing well at Red Bull. I think Jacques may still come up with a few surprises yet. No luck with the start at last week's CDN GP. Anything can happen in F1 Andre

Good point Andre. BAR should never have treated Jacques the way they did, and Honda should have been smarter with their money. Now a team featuring Jacques, and David Coulthard in a competitive car ......... that would be something to see. Good friends and each is a fine driver. Are you listening BMW??????

Thanks Chris. David Coulthard races for the "Red Bull" racing team in Formula One this year. And doing well I must say, a British team with a small budget, and a Scottish driver beating the likes of Honda.

Beautiful light and composition, Richard! And thanks for your comment on my 'Red Bull' shot. I didn't quite get the Coulthard connection. Is that his nickname? Best regards, Chris

Thanks Chris. I agree with your assessment. I am practising for a "No Photoshop" type competition, so experimentation is the order of the day (or month as it were). I intend to enter the landscape division so your insight is much appreciated.
