About I just love chipmonks but they are very hard to see, for me at least. Caught this one spying on me from the woods.

Taken at Earthplace Nature center:
The Swamp Loop Trail (30 minutes) is the best for viewing spring and summer wildflowers. The trail winds past a swamp, a freshwater stream, a pond and deciduous woodlands. View winter photos along this trail.

2. The High Woods Trail (20 minutes) travels through open fields and mixed hardwood forests. Watch for birds and mammals along the edge of the field. This is the best trail for fall hawk watching.

3. The Universal Design Nature Trail is designed to be fully accessible for individuals in wheelchairs or who use walkers. The trail winds through an open meadow where native grasses and abundant birdlife can be found. The surface of the trail is composed of T-Naps, a new hard-scape material made from natural and recycled products, and a section composed of crushed bluestone. View more information and photos about this trail.

4. The Newman-Woodward Trail (20 minutes) winds through an oak and beech forest with high leaf canopy and silvery trunks. Stonewalls and cedar stumps dot the forest, remnants of the days when this was a farm field.

5. The Eloise A. Ray Trail (20 minutes) was once an old farmstead, but this piece of town property has been reclaimed by locust trees and shrubs. The ample fruits and cover of the shrubs make it a good trail for bird watching.

6. The Wadsworth Trail (15 minutes) follows the rim of a wetland depressions. The standing water is host to many amphibians in the spring. This is a good trail for ferns and some wildflowers.

Marvelous capture of the squirrel. Was he playing hide & seek? Cheers Alison.

The chipmunk, though small, is a stark contrast to the lifeless and cold rocks; the green background has a cooling effect too in the photo. And I must also mention that your photos are alway very very informative!!

....not in the thumbnail, but the enlarged photo as as sweet as they come. Thanks for the detailed about, I'm afraid that for me it's academic. Would you be horrified to hear that when I was in Kurdistan (winter 1966-7) we on the one hand had squirrel as a pet, on the other hand, when food was short, we hunted squirrels (not our pet, it was accidentally devoured by a cat we also had) and cooked and ate them?
Thank you for your very kind words about my "In Monet's garden 1, 2 and 3.)
I think I sent you 4 of Rachel's stories. Did you get all of them?
Best regards,
Rafi

I like your contrasts of color and DOF with that cute little guy giving it a special touch.

OH Alison how absolutely adorable..I love chipmunks too and I never get to see them anymore...Wish somebody would sneak them over in their luggage, hehehehe...No seriously I don't know why we don't have them here, maybe they only live in the colder climates, because I never saw them in Florida either....thank you for a look and an excellent capture, so perfectly focused too. I'm a rock lover too so I enjoyed that as well, and how nice of you to give us all of that information and btw, you write well....thanks again....:):)Linda
