Great moment captured here Julie! Jack has such a wonderful expression on his face - real innocent joy and anticipation... simply lovely...!
As for the hat, in some ways it adds to the shot as it leaves your daughter with an air of mystery and makes the viewer want to see more. It would however be nice to see her without the hat one day!
You do have a very good talent with the camera and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your shots soon!

Very good candid portrait. Nice choice of black and white. Too bad the girl's eyes are covered -- it might add more interest. There's something to be said for shooting burst images in candid situations -- you get more choices. The children in your portfolio all look great and you might want to focus on this area of your talent.
