They were hoping for a carrot or an apple or maybe they were just lonely? Very nice scene and I like your choice for b&w. It really makes that triangle of white on the forehead jump out but adds a distinctive quality too.

This is wonderful, Jim-- you caught them perfectly, great exposure-- I can see all of the details-- hard with a dark animal with so much light from the road. love the b&w tones.
