About Let me just say that I have the greatest respect for those on usefilm who have managed to get crisp clear shots of these guys. I did not have an easy time of it!! That's a sheet of notebook paper that he's walking on. I would have preferred one consistent background color, but since this is my first go at these guys, I'll take what I can get.

I used a cheap macro filter on my regular lens to get this shot and just cropped a bit in PSP.

I agree! I love the world of macro but my snaps are nowhere as crisp and clear as some of them on here! This one is great though...simple and effective...it's great and you've also been rewarded with an award...congratulations!!

I missed this first time round, but it's just popped up on the front page. It's a lovely image and the two colour background works perfectly, despite the concerns expressed in your "about". A most striking composition...

I hear ya there... Me too. I actuly made my extension tube for Less than $5.00 But I have no apature control.

If you gave me 10K I could spend it in less than a day.... Arghh.... Someday this hobbie will pay me back.... I hope :-)

Pat,
Thanks so much for your kind comment. I actually just purchased a cheap set of extension tubes. I'm still trying the get the hang of using them. I'd love to get a macro lens, but that will have to wait just a little while. It seems that there is no end to the amount of money one can spend on camera equipment! :)

Congrats Laurie! Not too shaby....

You may look into an extension tube. They have no glass to diffuse the light. But I agree, a real Macro is the ultimate. If you get an extension tube that is made for your camera you will still have apature control. This will allow you to shoot at those sharpe middle apatures resulting in a sharper image and greater DOF..

But.. sharpness is only one aspect of an image. Composition, color, originality, pattern all this stuff goes into what is a great picture and that is why your photo is just as good as the sharpest ladybug.... Cheers!

Hi Laurie,
To me composition is the most important part of a photo.
Although I like the first one, perfect classic composition, my preference goes out to the square one.
Somehow it seems stronger.

All in All a very patientful job, well done!

CONGRATS on making the front page, it's wonderful to see you there!!!!
This is one of my favorite shots!!!! IMHO, I prefer the original version, or in the words of Billy Joel: "don't go changing" :) The dual color backgrounds is a fantastic idea, great contrast versus the colours on the little lady bug. I admire also the creative process, I would have never thought of doing that!!! SUPER SHOT Laurie!!! -- Kind regards, Rafael

Candan,
Thanks for your kind comment.

I took this photo standing in my front yard with a piece of paper with the ladybug on it in one hand and my camera in the other. My neighbors probably think I'm a little odd!

I think the two tone background works incredibly well Laurie... It provides its own interest and in some ways make the ladybird an additional interest in an already interesting image. Great shor well focused and with good tight DOF. Good colour contrast on the background too. The red contrast strongly with the green background and the black legs contrast strongly with the white. To have used a single colour background would have softened the impact. Superb!!!
