a very interesting, rich portrait. excellent exposure and tone selection. intricate play of shades is very well rendered.

the feeling of music is very difficult to reproduce visually. in this image, the violin seems more like a prop, a delicately toned and translucent but still a prop, no music can be inferred. she could be leaning on a three volumes of advanced calculus or chainsaw for i know. i think it is still a beautiful shot and it would be worse without it, but some special violinistic quality is missing.

Lovely image, my favorite part being the woven shadow that goes down her right eye. The softness of the violin is an interesting and magical touch. Beautiful portrait~

Jimmy, First thank you for your interest and comments on my work. It is always a thrill when one receives carefully considered critiques. I would gladly trade a thousand 'nice photo' comments for a handfull of comments like yours. I'm glad my pictures communicate with you. Regards John

John, I have been looking through your portfolio and I am impressed to say the least. When I opened this one, I just had to comment. It is a picture perfect photo. I see in her face and eyes a real joy of what she is doing. A photo like this needs no words to convey its meaning. Your "A girl with violin eyes" says it all. The toning, the softness of her violin, the shadows of her hat, and the sharpness and clarity of those eyes all come together to make a top-notch photo.
Cheers, Jimmy

Excellent portrait, John! Very good light on her face,I love the shadow of the hat!
The sepia tones are perfect for this too.

hi, title cracks me up,John!...love that song and thought about posting a self-portrait one day with that title ;> this is a very cool candid portrait with a mix of contrast...the violin looks to have almost an IR effect..she does indeed have nice eyes, expression and quite the fancy mesh hat!...good comp...regards,gayle

They're beautiful eyes. And the violin is treated just right, more an allusion than an explicit image! The hat, of course, is just a very nice extra. The eyes have it as regards making this a memorable picture. She looks sensitive and intelligent. I'd like to accompany her... say a Brahms violin sonata? That would be fun!
